About Author:
Herbert George Wells was born on 21 September 1866. He was a prolific English writer who wrote in many genres, writing dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, satire, biography, and autobiography, and even including two books on recreational war games. He is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and is often called as “father of science fiction”
Brief Description of Chapter
The chapter is about a lone researcher, Griffin, whose discovery of invisibility alienates him from other people. He goes from scientist to fanatic when he begins to focus all of his attention merely on the concept of invisibility and neglects to think about the consequences He was not liked by his landlord. He decided to take revenge on him. One day he set his landlord’s house on fire. Then he drank his rare drug and put off his clothes. Now, he could see everyone but none could see him. He was safe from being caught. But he was without
clothes and it was very cold. He passed the night in a London store. He stole goods and money from the store. Then he went to a village called Iping. He stayed at an inn. He stole money from clergy man’s desk. A policeman named Jaffers was called. A strange fight took place. Griffin took off his bandages, his glasses and his hat. Now, he looked helpless. People were horrified. Griffin hit the policeman. He got free and ran away.

Warm up activity-
*Quick- Speak- Students will guess about the theme of the chapter after looking at the title.
*Suppose you become invisible for a day, what will you do?
*Few scenes of the movie “Mr. India” will be shown to make the students understand the
concept of becoming invisible as in the movie the actor Anil Kapoor uses a formula for
becoming invisible.
*Chapter will be explained after loud reading by the students making them noting the new words used in the text.
Activity (to support learning)
*Students will be suggested to read novel “An Invisible Man” by H.G. Wells to understand
the complete story as the chapter is an extract of the novel.
