Brief Description- About the author:
Abdul Gani Sheikh,is a prolific Urdu writer who has portrayed Ladakh and its simplicity through his writings. His other famous book includes ‘Foresaking Paradise’ which represents the culture and lifestyle of Ladakh.
About the story:
The story ‘Abhiley’ has beautifully brought forth the elderly woman from Ladakh who is far away from modernity and is a simpleton, innocent granny who loves her family and is unaware of any technological advancements, thus sometimes become a laughing stock due to her ignorance. She is simple, talkative and loving and is very much concerned about the safety of her family members. She is a village rustic for whom movie is a wild experience. Her superstitious beliefs are mentioned in a humorous manner with incidences which makes everybody laugh at her. Another sensitive issue of generation gap is also highlighted in the story.
